Inspect the red light therapy bed before you lie down. The light-emitting surface should be clean, the power cable should be intact, and the controls should respond normally. Use the bed only in a space with the ventilation and clearance specified by the red light therapy bed manufacturer. If the unit has a cooling fan, keep the vents clear. Do not cover the equipment with towels or clothing while it is operating.
Next, identify the controls that affect treatment: the timer, intensity, wavelength mode, fan, and emergency stop. If you are in a clinic, ask the operator to explain the selected program. If you are using a home or commercial unit, record the starting settings so you can compare future sessions without guessing. A simple log can include the date, program, duration, skin response, and any symptoms.
Position yourself so that the intended body surfaces are within the device’s treatment zone. Avoid pressing against panels unless the manual describes contact use. An uneven distance can produce uneven exposure, while moving closer to increase brightness may also increase the delivered dose. The correct position is the one specified for that model, not necessarily the one that feels brightest.
